Apply
Start your apprenticeship application.
Three steps to begin your career in the electrical industry. Applications are taken by appointment, Monday – Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Call (314) 644-3587 to schedule.
The Process
Three steps from application to apprentice
- 1
Written application
Bring your documents (see Requirements). Applications are reviewed for completeness on the spot at 2300 Hampton Ave.
- 2
NJATC aptitude test
A two-part battery (Algebra & Functions, Reading Comprehension), about 2½ hours total. Results follow in 2–4 weeks.
- 3
Oral interview
Meet a committee representing both NECA and the IBEW. Selected candidates are placed on a 2-year eligibility list.
Once you're selected
The journey continues.
Pre-employment screening
Selected candidates submit to a substance-abuse test and pass a physical examination — both at the Committee's expense — before dispatch.
2,000-hour probationary period
Progress is regularly evaluated by site managers. After at least 750 hours, probationary apprentices are interviewed for placement in the commercial / industrial day-school program; applicants not selected after the third interview may be offered the night-school program at the discretion of the program administrators.
Selection is made on the basis of qualifications alone. All applicants are afforded equal opportunity without regard to race, creed, color, sex, religion, national origin, ancestry, or physical handicap (except where it directly affects the ability to perform the work of the trade).
