About the JATC
The nation's premier learning facility for electricians.
Trusted since 1941. Jointly governed by labor and management. Funded by the people doing the work.
Who we are
The St. Louis Electrical Industry Training Center is managed by the St. Louis Area Electricians Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee (JATC), composed of representatives from IBEW Local #1 and the electrical contractors signatory to the IBEW agreement, including members of the St. Louis Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).
Together, IBEW Local #1 and St. Louis NECA form the Electrical Connection® partnership — a labor-management alliance dedicated to delivering the most skilled, safe, and productive electrical workforce in the nation.
Our Mission
The Mission of the St. Louis Electrical Training Center and the St. Louis Training Committee is to develop and standardize training to educate the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #1 and the St. Louis Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association; insuring and providing the Electrical Construction Industry with the most highly trained and highly skilled workforce possible.
What we teach
- Established and emerging electrical-construction technologies
- Continuing education for journeyman electricians and communication technicians
- Customized training that addresses specific facility owner and customer needs
- Code, safety, and equipment-specific manufacturer training
Funding & commitment
Our programs receive over $2 million annually in combined funding from IBEW and NECA. The rigor of our training far exceeds any non-IBEW program in the region — that investment is what produces a knowledgeable, reliable electrical workforce for the contractors and owners who hire our members.
Recognition
The St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers has repeatedly awarded the local electrical construction industry's training programs the Construction Industry Cost Effectiveness Award.
Our heritage
Local #1. The original IBEW local.
IBEW Local #1 was chartered in St. Louis in 1891 — the very first local of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. For over a century, Local #1 wiremen have built the city: power plants, breweries, stadiums, hospitals, the Gateway Arch lighting, and the data centers that run the modern economy.
In 1941, Local #1 and the St. Louis Chapter of NECA secured the very first US Department of Labor registered training standards for the electrical industry — the foundation of what is today the JATC. The bar we set in St. Louis became the bar for the country.
